John Kline
Ex-SAS man who once made the mistake of killing the brother of Birmingham’s underworld kingpin, Rawlinson. After doing away with Rawlinson himself beneath Spaghetti Junction, Kline instals himself as the replacement manager of the Maverick Club and begins an alliance with undercover cop Khan, and a chequered romance with Anne Darracott.

Played by: Maurice Colbourne
Left school in Sheffield early and worked as a stonemason, fairground roustabout and removal-man amongst other things, before a chance meeting with Tom Courtenay led him into acting. Other TV roles included Doctor Who and Van der Valk, but he is best remembered as Tom Howard in Howard’s Way (1985-89). Colbourne died of a heart-attack while fixing his roof in Britanny, aged 59.

"Suitable tribute to a forgotten chunk of Birmingham's popular culture"
- Metro

"Thirty years on, this series seems to have taken on a renewed life of its own... precisely what celebration of the city should be about."
